Pennyghael Estate covers around 10,000 acres (just
over 4,000 ha.) in the south of Mull. It faces north and all our houses look out
over Loch Scridain to Ben More (3,169 ft or 966m.). It extends southwards to the
sea cliffs at Carsaig, overlooking Jura, Islay and Colonsay.
It stretches
from Kinloch in the east to Aird Fada and Beach in the west.
The Estate has two families of otters which,
although elusive, are regularly seen along the northern shore. The shoreline
also has a seal colony on the Killunaig reef and you can often see the seals from
the house. A pair of sea eagles have recently moved here and you might
see them. The moors to the south hold red deer and you may see peregrine
falcons, ravens, hen harriers, etc. Overlooking the Carsaig Arches, we have two
pairs of golden eagles whilst the shoreline hosts a herd of around 70 wild
goats.
